First things first, grab your bread. I usually go for a thicker slice, because honestly, it just holds up better to all the deliciousness we're about to pile on. Lightly spread a thin layer of softened butter right up to the edges. This is crucial for that golden, crispy crust we're aiming for. I always make sure the butter is really soft, otherwise, I tear the bread, and then it’s a whole sad situation. You want a nice, even coating here, no dry spots!

Now for the fun part! Gently press down the center of each slice of bread with a spoon or your fingers, creating a shallow well. This little indentation is going to be the cozy home for your egg. I once pressed too hard and went right through the bread – oops! So be gentle, hon. You just need enough space for the egg to settle without overflowing immediately. It should look like a little bread boat, ready for its precious cargo.

Carefully crack one large egg directly into the well you just made on each slice of bread. This is where you might hold your breath a little, hoping the yolk stays intact. Don't worry if a tiny bit of white spills over; it'll cook up just fine. Sprinkle each egg generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Then, give it a good sprinkle of Everything Bagel Seasoning. The aroma of the seasoning with the raw egg is already starting to smell like breakfast magic!

Next, pile that glorious shredded cheddar cheese around the edges of the egg, letting some of it gently overlap the egg white. The cheese acts like a delicious dam, helping to keep the egg contained as it cooks. I always add a bit more than I think I need, because can you really have too much cheese? (The answer is no, by the way). You’ll see the cheese start to soften slightly just from the warmth of your hands, it’s a good sign!

Carefully transfer your prepared toast slices to your air fryer basket. Make sure they’re in a single layer, giving them a little breathing room. Don't overcrowd the basket, or they won't get crispy! I usually do two at a time in my smaller air fryer. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 6-10 minutes. This is where you need to peek! I usually check at 6 minutes; I'm always scared of overcooking the yolk.

Keep an eye on it! You're looking for the egg whites to be fully set and the yolk to be cooked to your liking (runny, jammy, or firm). The cheese should be bubbly and golden-brown, and the bread should be beautifully toasted and crisp. Once it's perfect, carefully remove the Air Fryer Egg and Cheese Toast with a spatula. It's going to be hot, so be careful! The smell is incredible – that warm, cheesy, eggy aroma is just heavenly. Serve immediately and savor every bite!
